What she looked like when we brough her home.
We know how much interest a RV generates among campers. Everyone loves to look at the inside and the men sure do love swapping information on motors, generators, weights, tanks, and etc. Many people are involved in rennovating RVs and love to get ideas from other RVer's. So, here's the information we thought you'd like to have and we'll update as the progress continues.
We bought a 33' 1984 Beach Craft Motorhome with 31k original miles on it in April 2006 for $3600. They were asking $5,000. Nearly all of the maintenance records from day one were in the glove box. It has been well maintained and is in good shape. There is a 454 Chevy in it and she has a little pep to her, which we found surprising for a vehicle this large. It was driven around from employer to employer to give hearing screenings, drug tests and physicals. The motorhome has been modified with extra lighting and outlets and a heavy duty tow package. Our Beach Craft is self-contained and has an Onan generator. It came with a fridge, ducted heat, dual a/c, etc. The transmission and tires are new and under warranty. Overall, it is in very good shape. The body has a little rust and needs some paint and attention in places, but she looks good for her age. We are tearing her out and custom building the inside to suit our needs as a family. We got her for a great deal from an honest and kind man. He turned out to be a man Clint did business with when we lived in Suffolk, VA.
As we work on her, we will post before and after pictures here. It's been fun working on it.

We plan on removing the table and installing a futon. The carpet will be spot treated and steam cleaned. There is a table that goes in between these two seats. We plan on adding storage containers under the seat and a first aid kit on the passenger's side. |
Nearly all of the oil stains came out with a little Ajax dish detergent and scrubbing. Steam cleaning brightened the carpet. The seats look lighter because they are lighter! The years of build up came off with Krud Cleaner. Armor All put a shine on the inside. This will be all we do to the cab for a while. |
|
The seats are over the generator. |
![]() We removed the seat and put in these cabinets from the 5th wheel. The countertop came from the blue table we took out to get the couch in (below). Clint redesigned the cabinets and built it to fit over the generator box.
These cabinets run from the back of the drivers seat, over the couch, to over the new bottom cabinets where the waiting area use to be. We had to move two lights to be able to get the cabinets open that now run on both sides of the front room. |
|
We will leave the 7' bed in and might eventually add another bunk over it. |
We removed the door and that is about all we plan to do to this area for the time being. The bathroom door closes both ways (to the bathroom or to the hall) to give us three different rooms. |
|
Paint, wallpaper, whaddaya think? |
Eventually, we plan on painting the bathroom and upgrading the flush toilet with a newer model. |
|
|
Eventually, we plan on putting in a full shower, cabinets and portapotti (will sit in the shower) so we will have two toilets for our family of 7. We have the building materials already, but our gang says it can wait until they get a couple of camping trips in first! We have removed the shelf and are using the closet for storage while we work. |
|
We will tear this area completely out to put in a queen size bed with storage room under it (high enough to crawl into), a closet rod and cabinets. We may add a t.v. also. This area had water damage to the floor from an unchecked water leak and was the worst area of the camper.

![]() This is right under the windows in the other picture. Clint put studs around the plumbing to keep it from getting beat up from items in storage while traveling and added more supports to the bed. He's also fixed some plumbing he didn't like.
This area is now a queen sized bed with real mattress...
...with enough storage you can crawl under it. The bead board lifts up to open up the large storage area. We plan to either build in an entertainment center in the space left over at the foot of the bed or add more cabinets. The beautiful quilt was made by our loving friend Susan Selvage. |

![]() This is what it looked like. Everyone wants to know what it says...it says NOWCARE. Now, I forgot to take a before picture of the side I worked on first, so this is actually two different sides, but they both looked pretty much alike. It gives you and idea of what you can do with something that seems hopeless. |
![]() Here is what it looks like after Krud Cleaner, a razor, a Brillo pad and a light coat of regular spray paint. We plan on going over it a few more times in a broad sweeping motion to blend it all in better. From a distance, at this point, you can't even see it has had work done. It blends in nicely.
Same side (as pict on left-see vent) after a few more coats of paint. |

![]() Kitchen cabinets. |
![]() Cabinets from the 5th wheel. All of the cabinets we used needed some sort of modifications so it took a while to move them. Once we get the counter top in, we plan on putting white enamel board (easy to clean) on the wall on the window side. |
|
![]() Table used to fill out forms. We use insulated mugs and individually colored sports bottles while camping (and at home as pictured) to cut down on dishes to be washed. |
![]() We took the couch/bed from the 5th wheel. The trim behind it came from the 5th wheel also. The couch is between the driver's seat and the cabinets that sit over the generator. |
|
![]() Kitchen before |
![]() We still need to put up molding at the top and on the counter corner by the fridge, but you can get an idea of how it will look. Clint had to use bits and pieces to finish the cabinets under the sink because the 5th wheel is about tapped out for cabinet materials. He's done an excellent job! |

Looks pretty good cleaned up a little. I need a taller ladder to finish the roof edging. Krud Cleaner looks like it will work pretty good on that too. We cant wait to wax it and see her shine. |

We added a clothes rod over the foot of the bed. It was really the only place for it. We thought we'd not like it, but it really works out great.
We store our underclothes in a Coleman Camper Caddy. It has big roomy pockets in the front and flat pockets in the back. It holds our entire family's under clothing for up to 5 days (We never pack more than that. We hit a laundry mat.) with room left over. We put this on the wall in the closet for now.
We added 2 water dispensers that we keep filled with water and ice while camping. We place one outside on the picnic table and the other we keep inside (pictures behind Clint and Bethany). This really cuts down on how many times people are going in and out of the rv and helps keep tracked in dirt down. |
So, you are probably wondering "If they took all of this stuff out of the 5th wheel, what does that look like now?"
