Contentment Acres Goat's Milk Soap
How long will goat's milk soap last?
That depends on many factors: how often you use it, what it is used for (handwashing or bathing or both), how it is stored, how dry it gets between uses, how long it was cured before use, specific ingredients in each variation, your water quality, etc.
For our family of 9, one bar lasts over a week but we use it only for showering. I use pump dispensers with watered down, cheap dish soap in it for handwashing because my younger children will go through it in no time.
I recommend storing the soap where it will drain and dry out between uses, like on a wire rack. You don't want it sitting in any water in a "bowl" type soap dish.
The soap you are not using, keep in a cool, dry place in the bags I packaged it in.The bags will keep dust off of the bars and still allow it to continue to cure (dry out) which will give you a milder, firmer, longer lasting bar. Some people like to use the bars to add fragrance to their dresser drawers.
Soap does not "go bad" unless it is kept in a very moist environment. Because our bars are a high quality soap that is superfatted, glycerine will some times "sweat." You can use it as it is or wipe the glycerine off with a papertowel. That glycerine is very good for your skin.
Infrequently, due to storing in very moist conditions, certain types of soap can grow mold that can be easily scraped off and the bar still used. We have never had this happen to one of our bars, but we know it it possible from other soap crafters.
