Lying Lips Bible Lesson Plan
I enjoy making simple, short Bible lessons for my children to teach them values from God's Word. I don't believe that we can leave Biblical instruction to others to teach our children in Sunday School, children's programs or Christian schools. We Christian parents need to teach it as we live out each day to the fullest for the glory of the Lord. (Deut:6:7)
This is a recent lesson I taught them that I thought you might enjoy sharing with your children or Sunday School class. Instructions I have given in this lesson are for a poster-sized visual, but you can easily make this on your computer on a sheet of paper. We have the visual for this in a three ring binder that we refer to time to time as a reminder of what we have learned.
Memory Verses:
Proverbs 12:22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are His delight!
Psalms 19:14 Let the words of my mouth,...be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.
Lesson:
1. Have the children memorize the verse.
2. Discuss the meaning of the verse.
3. Discuss the meanings of the following words:
abomination-extreme dislike
delight-great pleasure, satisfaction or joy
acceptable-good,satisfactory
strength-power to withstand strain, force, stress; power to withstand attack, a source of power or force or protection
redeemer-One who saves from sin and its consequences
4. How can we apply this verse to our lives?
a. Give examples of situations in which it is difficult to tell the truth. Resolve to be truthful even when it is difficult. I recognize, praise and thank my children for honesty when they are in a difficult situation. Set a good example-Don't be dishonest in any way!
b. Discuss consequences of lying in the lives of Bible heros: Jacob (loss of his brother's fellowship, fear, fleeing danger, etc), Joseph's brothers (They brought sadness upon their father for many years, loss of their brother's fellowship, fear upon meeting him again, having to explain the truth to their father what they had done must have been very difficult and shameful.)
5. Blessings of honesty
I Peter 3:10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
Proverbs 3 1-4 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
6. Compare a friendship, parent/child, sibling relationship to a house. Each time one lies to another, you remove a brick and make the "house" weaker. Each time you are honest, the "house" grows stronger. For the child that has trouble lying, have them memorize: Psalms 119:29 Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.

magic markers
poster board
Divide the board in half. One one side write HONEST TONGUE and on the other write LYING LIPS. Draw a smiling face under HONEST TONGUE with I Peter 3:10 underneath. List blessings mentioned above (and any you think of like "respect from others") around the smiling face. Draw a frowning face with Proverbs 12:22 underneath. Write consequences of lying around it.
