Not For Sale
This memory came to me while I was cleaning up and I thought you'd enjoy a chuckle too.
Several years ago, we had friends with their
children visiting. The children were excited about seeing our
kittens and immediately started asking their parents if they
could take them home with them. We had already placed all of the
kittens that needed homes and had told Brandon and Amanda they
could keep the three left. They had quickly settled on names for
two of the kittens, but were still thinking on a name for the
third one. They were unsettled by their friend's designs on
taking home one of their pets and that is how I came to hear this
conversation.
"What's this kitten's name?" the child asked.
"Firecat. It's mine." Brandon replied quickly.
"What do you call this one?" the other child hopefully
asked.
"Smoke. She's mine." Amanda said decisively.
You could almost read the thoughts on the visiting children's
faces. There are two Asbell children and three kittens. This one
had to be available. "What is this one's name?" the
first child asked with optimism.
I could see my children hesitate as they thought for sure this was the kitten their friend's would try their best to take home.
"Not For Sale." Brandon and Amanda replied firmly and in unison.
