Raven and the Vinegar
Clint & Wendy Asbell

Raven was in such poor condition when he came to us that we immediately looked to others for help for his ailments. We were able to do quite a bit to help him feel better and give him a bit of enjoyable life before he had to be put down.

Raven clearly had arthritis. His joints were swollen pitifully. When we asked how to help him with it, we were told to give him apple cider vinegar. We researched and found it was an old remedy that helped a lot of horse owners.

So, we took apple cider vinegar to him in a bowl. He sniffed it and got very excited. He loved apples!

He greedily lowered his head took a big sip of it. We had just enough time to think "Hey, this isn't so bad. He likes this medicine!" Then we watched in horror as he proceeded to gasp, cough and gag. We can still see his face. He didn't want any more.

We contacted the horse people that gave us the tip and told him Raven just wouldn't drink any more. We found out why....they had forgotten to tell us to pour it over his FEED!

This story always bring a laugh to us when we think about it. We kept giving Raven the cider on his feed, but every time he'd smell it, he's swallow backwards and hesitate before he'd eat.
