THOSE THINGS!

This happened during the crazy week in which Amanda sleepwalked, the DSS threat and the fire which had us evacuate our home. We had stayed up all night the night Amanda had sleepwalked and were very tired the next day. We headed out to get door alarms. While we were in Walmart, I headed across the back of the main aisle towards the grocery section. It was crowded and navigation was slow.

Caleb became very excited and started shouting "Those things! Those things MOM! Now you can buy you some those things!!" I was going over my list in my head as I walked, so I gave him a short acknowledgement "You like those things?" without ever looking to see what he was pointing at. "Yes! THOSE things! You need some THOSE things!" Bethany then picked up the chant "THOSE things!! THOSE things Mom!" Both of them were loud and I briefly glanced in the direction they were pointing. I didn't see anything I thought would hold their attention though. So, I went for the 'quick-quiet', "We'll have to come back later and see if Dad will let you have one of those things." It didn't work. "No, THOSE things!!! THOSE things Mom!!"

Then, I noticed people were staring at me. Some were smiling and some were wearing faces of strong disapproval. "THOSE things! THOSE things Mom! Now you can get you some THOSE things!!" I smiled with uncertainty, not knowing what I had done THIS time, and looked at my clothing. I am not nursing right now, but have not fully recovered from the time Brandon's impatient tugs unbuttoned a large, gaping hole in my shirt. Nope, nothing immodest. The t-shirt is holding together well. I pat my hair wondering if I remembered to comb it. Everything feels in place. Well, what in the world?!

Then, I look in the direction of their pointing fingers and at the same moment it clicks in my head they are not saying "those" things. I swallow hard trying to remember what they had been saying about "THOSE" things. I give my children the answer they've been looking for while the people continue to eavesdrop and stare. "Oh, BOOB things. You're right, Mom needs more boob things. Thank you for finding them for me."
